Your free report
The check and what it tells you
The check is free, it needs no signup, and it only looks at what any stranger could already see about your business.
- What does the check actually look at?
- Public information only. The settings that decide whether someone can send email in your name, whether your web address can be quietly pointed somewhere else, whether a customer can confirm your licence without phoning you, and whether an AI assistant can read what you do and how to reach you. We never log into anything and we never contact you as part of a check.
- My grade is bad. Does that mean my business is bad?
- No. It means almost none of what makes you trustworthy is provable to someone who has not met you. Most of the businesses we have checked score the same way, and most of the fixes are free settings nobody ever told them about.
- Can other people find my report?
- A report you ran yourself has a private web address. It is not listed anywhere and it is not in search. Reports we run for our own monthly checks and our own outreach are kept out of search deliberately. If you want your report taken down, write to us and we delete it.
- Can I run it again?
- Yes, as often as you like, free. Fix something and run it again to see the check turn green. If you have an account, every report you have run is kept in your dashboard with the date it was run.
- One of the results looks wrong.
- Tell us and we will look at it the same way we looked at the last one. We have already found and corrected a check that was reading some working sites as broken, and we published that correction rather than quietly fixing it. If a check is wrong about you we want to know.
Proving the business is yours
Verification, in one step you choose
Before we give you an account for a business we need proof you control its website. There are two ways and you only need one.
- What are the two ways?
- Either you add one line of text to your domain settings, or you put one small text file on your website. Both are things your web person or your hosting company does in a couple of minutes. We show you the exact line or the exact file, with the address to put it at.
- I have no idea how to do either of those.
- That is the normal answer and it is not a problem. Ask us to do it with you. We walk you through it on your own screen, or we write the instruction for you to forward to whoever built your site. It is free and it is not a sales call.
- Why do you need it at all?
- Because everything else we do rests on it. If anyone could claim a business without proving they run its website, then a signature from us would prove nothing, and the listing that assistants read could be written by a stranger. Proving the domain once is what makes the rest worth anything.
- Can I remove the line or the file afterwards?
- Leave it in place. We re-check it, and a business whose proof has disappeared stops being verified. Removing it is also how you cancel the verification if you ever want to.
Signing in
No passwords, ever
- How do I get in?
- You type your email address and we send you a link. Clicking the link signs you in on that device. There is no password to choose, forget, or have stolen.
- The link says it has expired.
- Each link works once and stops working an hour after we send it. Ask for a new one and use the newest email, not an older one. If you asked twice, only the most recent link works.
- The email has not arrived.
- Check the spam folder first, and check you typed the address correctly. The email comes from our own address and the link in it goes to orbylon.com, never to anywhere else. If it still has not arrived, write to us from the address you were trying to use and we will look at what happened to it.
- Can two people from the business have access?
- Yes. Anyone who can prove control of the domain, or who has the signing secret, can be added. If you need someone added and neither of those is easy, write to us.
Your signing secret
The one string worth protecting
Your signing secret is what lets your own systems talk to us as you. Treat it like a key to the building.
- Where do I find it?
- In your dashboard, under Signing secret. You can see it there whenever you are signed in, so there is nothing to write down on paper and nothing to lose.
- I think someone else has seen it.
- Replace it. There is a button in the same place that gives you a new one immediately and stops the old one working. Nothing else about your business changes and your verification stays.
- Do I need it at all if I am not technical?
- No. Everything Orbylon does for you can be done from the dashboard by clicking. The secret exists for businesses whose own software wants to sign documents or update their listing automatically.
- Will you ever ask me for it?
- No. We will never ask you for your signing secret, a password, or a card number, in an email or anywhere else. Anyone who does is not us.
Signed documents
Proving a document came from you
- What does signing a document do?
- It gives that exact document a public page anyone can open to see that it came from your business and has not been altered since. You send the page, or the link, to whoever needs to trust it.
- What can I sign?
- An invoice, a quote, a certificate, a licence, an insurance confirmation, a letter. Anything where someone might reasonably ask whether it is really from you.
- What if the document changes?
- Sign the new version. The old page keeps saying what the old document said, which is the point. A record that changes quietly is not a record.
- Where do I see everything I have signed?
- In your dashboard, under Signed documents, newest first, with the date each one was signed.
Being found by assistants
What you sell, in a form a machine can read
Customers now ask an assistant before they call anyone. Your listing is what the assistant reads.
- What is the listing?
- A plain description of what you offer and what it costs, written once in your dashboard, published at a public address, and readable by AI assistants without a human having to read your website first.
- Do I have to write anything technical?
- No. You type the name of a thing you sell, what it costs, and a sentence about it. We do the machine-readable part.
- Can I take it down?
- Yes, immediately, from the same screen. It is deleted rather than hidden.
- Is my listing in the directory?
- Verified businesses appear in our public directory. If you would rather not be listed there, write to us and we take you off it while keeping everything else.
The monthly check
What the paid plan actually does
The free check tells you what is open today. The paid plan is what notices when something that used to be fine stops being fine.
- What do I get for paying?
- We re-check your business every month and write to you when a check that used to pass no longer does. You also get a dated record of every monthly check, so you can show a customer or an insurer what was true and when. And you can write to us any time and we do the fixes with you, free.
- Will you email me every month?
- No. We only write when something has actually broken. A month where everything still passes is a month you hear nothing, and the record in your dashboard shows the check ran.
- Why does anything break on its own?
- Because it is not on its own. Certificates expire, hosting gets changed, a web person moves a setting, a domain renewal lapses. The things we check are exactly the things that quietly stop working while nobody is watching them.
- How do I know the check really ran?
- Your dashboard lists every check with the date it ran. If a month is missing from that list, we did not run it, and you should tell us so we can fix it and refund that month.
Money
Paying, stopping, and getting money back
- How do I pay?
- By card, through Stripe. Your card details go to Stripe and never to us. We never see or store a card number.
- How do I stop paying?
- From the Billing screen in your dashboard, in one click. You keep everything until the end of the period you have already paid for, and then it stops. Nothing is deleted and your free report and your verification stay.
- Do you give refunds?
- If we failed to run a monthly check in a month you paid for, write to us and we refund that month. Beyond that, tell us what happened. We would rather return your money than argue with you about it.
- Where do I get an invoice or change my card?
- The Billing screen opens your own billing page with Stripe, where every receipt is kept and where you change the card. You do not need us for either.
- Will my price go up?
- Not on you. If we change the price, it changes for new businesses. If that ever stops being true you will hear it from us before it happens, not on a statement.
Your information
What we hold and what we will delete
- What do you know about me?
- Your email address, the domains you have verified, the reports we have run, the documents you asked us to sign, and what you chose to publish in your listing. That is the whole list.
- Do you sell any of it?
- No. We do not sell or rent your information to anyone, and we do not name a customer in anything we publish without asking first.
- Can you delete everything?
- Yes. Write to us from your own address, ask for deletion, and we delete your account, your reports and your listing. Public pages for documents you signed can also be taken down, though anyone who already saved a copy of the page keeps their copy, which is true of anything on the internet.
Still stuck? We will do it with you, free.
Leave your email and a real person walks you through whatever is in the way, step by step. This costs nothing and it is not a sales call. It is included on every plan, including the free one.
No spam. One email to sort this out with you.
You can also write straight to contact@orbylon.com. If your question is about a charge, include the email address you paid with so we can find it. Never send us a password or a card number. We will never ask for either.
New here and not sure what any of this is for? Run the free check and read your own report first. Everything on this page will make more sense with it in front of you.
